How Eid-al-Adha Was Celebrated Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

Eid al Adha or Bakra eid is celebrated with much fervor among those who follow Islam. It marks the readiness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in order to prove his obedience to Allah.

This year the festival has taken a major hit due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This year’s Eid was unlike others because there were no grand get-togethers and it was not possible to follow the tradition of visiting friends and relatives.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia greeted Delhiites on the festival. “Hearty congratulations to you all on Eid al-Adha,” Kejriwal tweeted. Amid the pandemic outbreak, the faithful maintained social distancing and wore face covers as they visited mosques in the city to offer prayers. They also avoided hugging and shaking hands with each other after the prayers to prevent the spread of the infection.

Several Bollywood stars and celebrities extended Eid al-Adha wishes to their fans on Saturday. Actor Shah Rukh Khan. Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan and others all shared messages of peace and prosperity on social media.

Shah Rukh shared a picture of AbRam praying. “Eid Mubarak to everyone. May this day and actually everyday bring peace happiness and health to all your loved ones. Everyone give yourself a self hug,” he wrote with the picture.
